[But she's looking out the window again, giving it a little thought.]

Alright. So he's all buttoned up tight, trying to just get home. It's the afternoon, there're kids everywhere, he just wants to go the fuck home. Tryin' not to draw attention to himself, but it's not because he's some kind of antisocial fuck.

[Attention back on Izuru, one of her hands gesturing a little as she talks.]

Really he is in the business of smugglin' puppies. He's got one hand in his pocket because he's tryin' to keep this little teacup pooch quiet. Just picked him up from a client, needs to get him home and findin' someone to sell him to. But this is the cutest lil' shit you've ever seen. And then--

[She sits up, pausing her story as their orders are delivered. Her dish looks pretty plain, but there's a pink bubbly soda in her cup, and...two strawberry parfaits. Two. One is set aside and the other she picks up a spoon and takes a few bites from, almost whining happily about how delicious it is.]

So good~! This place has my favorite parfaits!

[What were they talking about? Hold on, she needs another bite to help her remember.]

[He can be creative! He just doesn't see the point when he could listen to her, instead. It's interesting to see the jumps her logic takes, and how she moves from ridiculous story point to another, equally ridiculous one.

He pauses and looks at the parfaits once they arrive. Really?]

Really?

[Here he is with an actual meal, and she ordered. Parfaits.]

Yeah, really! [You were asking if they were really her favorites, right? Her reply is mumbled around another bite, Natsumi looking just as pleased with this one as she did the last. And then she pushes the parfait towards him, offering out her spoon.]

I thought you were going to get real food.

[His oyakodon is steaming gently in front of him, and it does smell good. But sure, fine, he'll have a bite of parfait, taking her spoon and trying a bite. His eyes widen slightly, and he makes a quiet noise of appreciation.]

You're right. It is good.

[Then he'll snap his chopsticks and start stirring his actual food.]

I suppose I should offer you some of this.

[She just grins, glad that he agrees. And then she looks a little more eager, sitting up some.]

Ooh, yes please!

[She loves sharing food with friends. Especially potential boyfriends. Which really are the only kinds of friends she shares food with, considering she has no friends.]

He sighs and obliges, passing over the chopsticks without trying it first. She can have the first bite. She's the princess here, after all.]

[Okay, true. She does like him, and he can still stand her. But wow, learned well from your brother didn't you Izuru? Already know she's the princess and everything!

She's careful as she takes a bite, not taking too big of one so as not to be rude and doing her best to avoid making a mess. And then she hands the chopsticks back, nodding.]

Mmmmmm! You're definitely gonna like that one.

[Even if he hadn't learned from him, he'd still be able to figure it out from reputation and behavior. Give him some credit!!

He takes his chopsticks back to start eating himself, nodding in appreciation. It's good? She definitely made a good choice, coming here.]

You were saying about your puppy smuggler?

Hm? Oh! Right, okay, so--

[She takes a quick bite of her parfait, leaning back in her seat.]

Anyway like I said, puppy is a real cute shit, and the guys not sure he wants to give him away now. Figures if he sends his client the money, s'not gonna matter who takes him home. Except there are rules about this kinda thing. He's part of a ring of puppy smugglers, they say you can't do that kinda shit. Gotta sell 'em, or you'll get caught.

[A few more bites.]

[He's just going to keep eating while she's talking. The person she's telling the story about is long gone, but he has to admit, he's curious to see how she'll end it.]

Okay good. So he keeps the little mutt, things are fine for a little while, then the guys figure him out. Send an assassin to kill 'im. He thinks it's gonna be the end of him. He's convinced he's gonna bite it, no way they'd let him off now that they found him out, but he stands his ground. He isn't a pussy, he can take 'im. But he pulls out his little teacup for one last good bye, and you know what happens?

[She doesn't seem to mind that he's eating. She pauses every so often to take a few bites herself after all.]

An assassin to take care of a puppy smuggler?

[Forgive him if he sounds incredulous. It's illogical! Which makes it kind of interesting, in spite of itself.]

The dog takes out the assassin, I assume.

Well yeah! How else would you take out a puppy smuggler?

[She's just grinning, clearly amused by his incredulous tone.]

Sort of, in a way. Turns out the puppy is just too cute! It's so cute, that when the assassin sees the smuggler bending down to give it his last goodbyes, he just can't stand the idea of parting 'em. So he agrees to fake his death, let the guy live on the run as an ex-smuggler. A dangerous life in this world of illicit animal smuggling rings that don't forgive you for turnin' your back on 'em, but he's okay with it. He's got his little pup with him for the whole journey after all!

[That is a satisfying ending, don't you think?]

Oh, but the assassin didn't get to pet him. Poor guy is too intense, scared the little shit before he had the chance. That's why he's an assassin and not a smuggler.
